Buckeye Power Systems urges homeowners and business owners to secure automatic standby generators now, with new Cummins units in stock and ready to ship

This order is a precaution, and officials are right to say there’s no need to panic. But the best time to protect your home or business from an outage is before it happens. ”

CORDOVA, TN, UNITED STATES, October 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) declared a temporary power grid emergency on October 12, 2026, covering 13 states and Washington, D.C. The order is meant to head off electricity shortages that could cause regional blackouts. Buckeye Power Systems, an online seller of Cummins generators, says the announcement is a timely reminder that the grid can’t be counted on to carry every home and business through every stretch of strain.

Issued by Energy Secretary Chris Wright, the directive gives PJM Interconnection, the regional grid operator serving the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest, temporary emergency authority from October 13 through October 16, 2026. Under the order, PJM may direct specific power plants to generate electricity, even if that means overriding normal environmental restrictions, and may draw on backup power reserves to keep power flowing across the multistate network.

DOE and PJM officials have described the order as a proactive step to maintain grid stability, not an announcement of rolling blackouts. PJM has issued Maximum Generation and Load Management Alerts, which signal tight operating conditions, and has said residents do not need to take emergency action.
The conditions behind the order, however, are ones that can recur. They include:
• Unusually warm autumn weather that drove a late-season spike in demand for cooling.
• Scheduled power plant maintenance that took generation units offline for the fall.
• Unexpected transmission line outages that limited the grid’s ability to move power.

The PJM network covers all or parts of Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, as well as Washington, D.C.

“This order is a precaution, and officials are right to say there’s no need to panic,” said David Richey, President of Buckeye Power Systems. “But the best time to protect your home or business from an outage is before it happens. A standby generator means that when the grid is stretched thin, your lights, HVAC, refrigeration, and equipment stay on.”

Standby Power That Keeps the Lights On
Buckeye Power Systems offers the full line of Cummins standby generators for homes and businesses. When utility power drops, an automatic standby system starts on its own and restores power in seconds, with no extension cords, no fuel runs, and no one needing to be on site. Buckeye’s standby systems are built on the engineering of Cummins Power Generation, a name trusted for power generation worldwide. Buckeye also sets itself apart on availability.
